Location Makaibari is located 1½ hours (37 km) from Darjeeling. The nearest airport is located at Bagdogra (approx 45 km) and the nearest train station is in Siliguri 1 hour away from Makaibari.  The nearest local town is Kurseong. Kurseong has a wide variety of markets, shops and cafes, which cater for the everyday needs of volunteers and tourists. Kurseong offers:  Internet and photocopying facilities, banks and ATM cash machines.

Accommodation There are numerous homestays and eco-huts in which volunteers and tourists to the Makaibari area can stay.
Homestays Visitors and volunteers stay with families in local villages surrounding Makaibari. Homestays offer an excellent opportunity to become involved with family life and to get to know the local people and their culture. Three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are provided daily as required and this offers a chance to taste traditional dishes prepared using local organic produce. The rooms are clean and comfortable and bathroom facilities are also provided. Homestay locations: 10  in Makaibari 5 in Fullbari 1 in Cheptay 3 in Thapathali.
Eco-huts These huts are more private than the homestay accommodation and are located next to local families. They are slightly more expensive than homestay accommodation and three meals are also provided. There are four Eco-huts: 2 in Makaibari 1 in Cheptay 1 in Koilapani. Crèche facilities There are three crèches. They are located in Makaibari, Thapathali and Cheptay. All three have been assigned a caretaker and an assistant. They are responsible for looking after infants up to two years of age. Each crèche can accommodate approximately 10 to 15 infants. This facility is open to all volunteers and tourists. 	Computer centre The computer centre is located in the Makaibari library. Training is provided free to local village students aged between 5 and 9 years. The centre is open Monday to Saturday from 15:00 to 17:00. The courses available include: MS Word MS Powerpoint MS Excel MS Access MS Paint.
Health centre The health centre is located directly opposite the Makaibari Tea Factory. The centre is run by two experienced nurses, who treat minor health problems including stomach upset, nausea and vomiting, and general medical problems. A doctor visits the centre twice a week. The opening hours are from 8:00 to 16:00 daily.
